Let's face it, trying something new as an adult is intimidating. It's hard to be a beginner, to take that first step, to let yourself explore trial and error… and to give yourself grace within mistakes. At The Movement Apothecary, we welcome and uplift beginners at our dance studio here in Fort Collins, CO. It's our job to meet dancers where they're at and encourage the exploration of new movements, while appreciating the journey.

We teach various dance styles from Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Ballet, to Belly Dancing, Twerk, and Heels. All skill levels are welcome. Our dance classes are an opportunity for growth, community, and curiosity.

The most common question we get from beginner dancers is: "What should I wear?"

In general, dress comfortably in something that you can move and sweat in. Any kind of athletic wear should do! Footwear will vary depending on the style of dance, but you can expect to be barefoot or in socks for most classes.

Specific footwear recommendations:

Belly Dance class - Barefoot.

Cardio Hip Hip class - Athletic shoes, flat sneakers, or trainers (clean, indoor shoes only).

Heels class - Any pair of heels you have at home that you would feel comfortable dancing in, however, it is not required. Heels can be done barefoot or in socks! If you do bring a pair, make sure they are clean/have only been worn indoors to protect the floor. Skinny heels with no platform are best for stability. Darian has great recommendations for dance heels, if you are looking to buy a pair!

Some encouragement from our team:

Show up and be present; dance is for every body! Classes are not about perfecting the choreography, they are about moving, grooving, and having fun. Don't hesitate to ask questions, and feel free to make any modifications that feel better in your body.

We hope to see you at your next (or first) dance class!
